Accident-Only vs. Accident & Illness: Which Pet Insurance Plan Fits?
Not all pet insurance plans cover the same things, and the difference between the two most common types comes down to how much risk you want covered versus how much you want to pay for it.
Accident-only plans are exactly what they sound like: broken bones, swallowed objects, injuries from an accident. They tend to cost less because they're covering a narrower set of situations. Accident & illness plans add coverage for things like infections, chronic conditions, and diseases that can show up regardless of how careful you are, which is a much broader (and more expensive) set of situations to insure against.
The right choice usually comes down to your pet's age, breed tendencies, and how much financial cushion you want if something develops that isn't just a one-time accident. A young, generally healthy pet might do fine on accident-only for a while. A breed prone to certain conditions may make accident & illness worth the extra cost from day one.
